At PPA we have 2 Trainers in each class which insures you get the attention needed. The trainers are not there just to instruct commands but help to resolve all issues and answer all of your questions. We encourage all family members that will be working with the puppy/dog to participate in the class. Please respect the other people in your class and keep your children under control at all times.
Please bring treats for training or we have several types you can purchase. We recommend a leather leash but it is not required. We have found that nylon leashes can burn while training by slipping through your hand. A leather leash is more comfortable to use. Because we do recommend the leather leash, we sell them to you at our cost. Please no Flexi Leads, Choke Chains or Prong Collars. Our preference is a Buckle Collar or similar. We do allow Martingale Collars.
Puppy PreSchool: Puppies up to 6 months of age will receive a foundation for basic obedience skills: they will have fun while learning sit, down, coming, loose leash walking, and much more. We also address those puppy challenges: biting, potty training, jumping, etc. Off leash socialization time is included to help your puppy learn good socialization skills both with people and other puppies.
Puppy Kindergarten: Puppies 6 months to 1 yr. will have fun learning the basics: sit, down, come, walking on a leash, potty training, and other positive skills! Off leash time is included to help your puppy learn good socialization skills with both people and other puppies. This class will also include the AKC STAR program for puppy skills.
Advanced Puppy Obedience: This is for puppies that have taken Puppy Kindergarten but are still not quite ready for Obedience 1 class or for dogs not ready for Obedience I. Work on developing good skills, in addition to more commands and on leash socialization skills. This class will also include the AKC STAR program for puppy skills.
Puppy Agility: Puppies 8 wks to 1 year will have a lot of fun with tunnels, low jumps, agility contact pieces and more while reinforcing good behavior and building confidence. Great off leash training for your puppy while bonding and building a wonderful relationship. There are no pre-requisites or skills needed for this class.

Puppy Agility 2: More off leash work to help your puppy continue to develop their agility skills as well as more handling skills for you as an owner. This mostly off leash training can help you reinforce obedience, build more confidence, and continue to develop your puppy’s desire to please you while having fun. Puppies should have taken Puppy Agility 1 prior to taking this class.
Jump Into Agility: This class is for dogs 1 year and older who would like to learn some basics of agility with jumps, tunnels, weaves, etc. It is also great for further handling skills for those older puppies who have completed puppy agility 1 and 2 and are ready for more mature work. Off leash skills are not required, as that is one of the objectives of this class as well. There are no pre-requisites or skills needed for this class.
Home Obedience I: Dogs 1 year and older will learn the basics of home obedience: sit, down, loose leash walking, stay, come, etc. The distractions provided by the class help your dog learn to utilize these skills away from home, where the distractions are often the biggest challenge! We address problem behaviors as needed. There are no pre-requisites
Home Obedience 2/Pet Therapy: Dogs continue with basic skills while adding more skills, hand signals, distractions, etc. It covers all of the skills needed to pass the CGC test (see the description below), as well as the canine portion of the TDI or Delta tests. Prerequisite: Obedience I (or equivalent)
CGC TEST:Canine Good Citizen title: 10 skills that demonstrate responsible ownership and good canine community behavior are tested by AKC evaluators. The Home Obedience 2 class prepares you to take this test, including the following: demonstrating sit, down, come, stay, loose leash walking, meeting other people and dogs appropriately, standing for exam, supervised separation, walking through a crowd. There are other benefits to the CGC test, including getting your dog into hotels and possibly even waiving the dog fee many hotels charge.
Musical Canine Freestyle I: Also known as musical freestyle, freestyle dance, doggie dancing and canine freestyle—is a modern dog sport that is a mixture of obedience, tricks, and dance that allows interaction between dogs and their owners. This class is good for those dogs that need more focus on their owners & for those that want to teach their dogs tricks. (Equivalent to a tricks class) This class is good for children who want to bond with & show off what their dog can do. It is a great class for those dogs that will be doing therapy.

Musical Canine Freestyle II: This class is a continuation of Freestyle I. Shaping the moves that were learned in Freestyle I & learn how to put moves together using transitional moves. Freestyle is a great way to continue to build a positive relationship with your dog! (need to have taken Freestyle I)
Musical Canine Freestyle III: This class is about choosing music, how to edit music and making up a dance routine. A dog and handler performing in a musical freestyle competition. There are two types, musical freestyle and freestyle heeling (also known as heelwork to music), the main difference being that freestyle heeling focuses on a dog's ability to stay in variations of the heel position while the handler moves to music, whereas musical freestyle demands the dog perform a variety of tricks and other obedience talents. It is a great way to continue to build a positive relationship with your dog! The nice thing about doing canine musical freestyle is that, even while competing, you can talk and encourage your dog throughout the entire program. Your dance routine can be filmed & mailed into the freestyle organization for judging. This really helps relieve stress on the part of the dog and handler. (need to have attended Freestyle I & dogs need to be able to work off leash)

Clicker: Covers the same skills as Obedience I & II (sit, down, loose leash walking, stay, come, etc), Freestyle I & II while using a clicker as a positive training tool. Great for dogs who struggle with focus or reactive dogs as the clicker helps the dog better connect with the behaviors they are being asked for.
Rally Obedience: Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind. It is a successful stepping stone from the AKC Canine Good Citizen® program. A rally course includes 10 to 20 stations, depending on the level. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional obedience. Communication between handler and dog is encouraged and perfect heel position is not required. Use teamwork to maneuver around the course. http://www.akc.org/events/rally/getting_started.cfm
Yoga:This class is for fearful dogs & puppies. So many dogs who have been labeled as aggressive are really fearful instead. You will learn dog massage & we will be using DAP Pheromones (wall plug ins, collars & spray. In some cases we will use a Calming Cap) for an effective way that helps stop or prevent fear and stress-related behavior in puppies and adult dogs to control and manage unwanted canine behavior associated with fear and/or stress such as: Separation Anxiety Destruction, Vocalization (excessive barking, whining) House Soiling, Excessive licking, Phobias (fireworks, thunderstorms)
If your dog is people or dog aggressive, please call for an evaluation first.
Because of the added cost of working with Pheromones this 7 week class will cost $100.00 and is limited to 5 dogs only.
